Indian postal workers’ unions calling for one-day strike on Wednesday

India’s National Federation of Postal Employees (NFPE) and Federation of National Postal Organization (FNPO) are calling for a one-day strike by postal workers this Wednesday (10 August).

The Postal Joint Council of Action (PJCA) served a strike notice on Friday (5 August|), with the support of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).

In a statement issued on its website, the CITU claimed that: “The Corporatization of the Postal department is de facto paving way for Privatization towards which several outsourcing schemes on postal department’s work in one or the other way are being actively pursued.”

The CITU added: “Further, the process of revamping of existing Franchise scheme and the other such process pursued are creeping privatization done in disguised way.”
