Austria Post’s new facility “underlines the strength of Vienna as a business location”

Österreichische Post AG has officially opened its new parcel logistics centre in Vienna’s Inzersdorf district.

In a 22,000 m² hall, 260 employees work in two shifts to ensure that more than 250,000 parcels per day are sorted and diverted to their destination. The investment volume amounted to around 70 million euros. The celebrations took place in the presence of the Mayor of Vienna, Michael Ludwig, and the entire Board of Management of Österreichische Post AG. The spiritual blessing was carried out by the Viennese cathedral priest Toni Faber.

“The opening of the new parcel logistics centre in Vienna-Inzersdorf underlines the strength of Vienna as a business location and its role as an important hub for trade and logistics. This centre will not only increase the efficiency of postal services, but will also create new jobs and thus make an important contribution to value creation in Vienna. This logistics centre is proof of Austrian Post’s confidence in Vienna as a business location and a sign that we are working together to further strengthen Vienna as an economic engine,” said Michael Ludwig, Mayor and Governor of Vienna.

“With the new parcel logistics centre in Vienna, we are completing the expansion programme of recent years. We have invested a total of around 500 million euros in order to stay one step ahead of parcel growth. In doing so, we have not only succeeded in creating a high-performance, but also sustainable logistics centre. This is demonstrated by a comprehensive green space concept, a green roof and a photovoltaic system with an output of two megawatts peak,” says Georg Pölzl, CEO of Österreichische Post AG.

“Modern logistics in 2024 has a lot to do with technology. At this location, we process thousands of tracking events every day and determine volumes fully automatically. This requires not only personnel, but also IT power. That is why we are placing an increasing focus on technology, as this innovative logistics centre demonstrates,” explains Walter Oblin, Deputy Director General of the Board of Management for Mail & Finance, Austrian Post.

“Our new parcel logistics centre is one of the most innovative and efficient locations in Europe! Thanks to a hybrid model of three sorting machines, we can now process up to 25,500 parcels per hour. AutoUnloaders and roll container tippers support our employees and speed up processes. With this location, we are setting new standards for the entire industry,” says Peter Umundum, Director of the Board of Management for Parcel & Logistics at Österreichische Post AG.
