Austrian Post accelerates network with later delivery times

Since June, Austria Post has been running a pilot operation to test later delivery times in the Upper Austria logistics centre in Allhaming.

As the country’s leading logistics service provider, Austrian Post takes current trends in e-commerce into account. This includes the fact that around a quarter of all online orders are not placed until between 9 p.m. and midnight. Austrians want to order late in the evening and ideally have their parcel in their hands the next day. Austrian Post has now reacted to this.

Premium shipping customers can use it to pick online orders received late in the evening during the night and deliver them to Austrian Post‘s logistics center pre-sorted until the early hours of the morning. Austrian Post ensures that the parcel is distributed and delivered less than 24 hours after the order has been placed.

“The interest in accelerating our network and the subsequent delivery times is enormous. With Amazon, we have already gained a customer who uses this service. This underlines the great market potential that we can tap into through the later delivery times,” says Peter Umundum, Member of the Management Board for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG.

From September, the later delivery times will be successively extended to the whole of Austria. In this way, Austrian Post is enabling more and more premium mail order customers to deliver online orders placed late in the evening the next day.
