Leading speakers to address UPU Strategy Conference 2006
It is the first time the annual event is moving out of UPU's headquarters in Switzerland.
The event, which commences on 14 November, will bring together around 600 delegates from more than 130 member countries to analyze the changing environment and explore ways of building a dynamic global infrastructure that satisfies growing customer needs. New opportunities in the communications sector, particularly for postal services, will also be an important forum agenda.
Senior decision-makers, distinguished officials from international organizations and partners from the global postal sector will come together at the Universal Postal Union Strategy Conference organized by Emirates Post in Dubai.
The opening day will address the postal sector's role in the information society. This session, featuring prestigious Arab speakers such as Moshen Khalil, Director of the Global Information and Communication Technologies Department (GICT) – World Bank, and Dr. Mohammad Ben Taher Benten, Head of Saudi Arabia Post will discuss the impact of technology on the growth of the communications sector.
Brunson McKinley, Director General of International Organization for Migration will highlight industry challenges. Carl Asmus, Vice President of International Marketing, FedEx Corporation and Alan Bryden, Secretary General, International Organization for Standardization will discuss the growth of the postal network and the implications of multiple networks on quality of service and customer satisfaction.
A panel discussion will be organized at the end of the third day to review key outcomes of the conference, with reference to UPU's future role. The team will also consider how the UPU should provide better services to meet the demands of its members.
Conference speakers also include Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay; Tarek Kamel Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technology in Egypt; HE Alpha Oumar Konare, Chairman of African Union Commission; Mr. Heizo Takenaka, Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan, and Hon. Pennelope Beckles, Minister of Public Utilities and Environment, Trinidad and Tobago.
The UPU Strategy Conference will be held from 14-16 November in Dubai. Held midpoint between two UPU Congresses, the strategic conference offers participants from the postal sector a unique opportunity to meet and network in a neutral setting.
