Austrian Post to target retailers “looking for a parcel tax-free sales alternative”
The new parcel tax will come into force in Austria on 1 October. For online retailers, it entails additional costs and administrative effort, and this immediately before the busiest time of the year. The online marketplace shöpping.at Austrian Post is not affected by this and thus offers retailers a parcel tax-free alternative before the busiest time of the year. With a special introductory campaign, Austrian Post and shöpping.at are helping new retailers to launch online in time for Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season.
Peter Umundum, Deputy CEO, Member of the Management Board for Parcel & Logistics, Österreichische Post AG: “The new parcel tax poses additional challenges for domestic retailers just before the Christmas shopping season. At Austrian Post, we want to support domestic retailers not only with delivery, but along the entire e-commerce value chain. With shöpping.at, we are offering them a strong Austrian platform through which they can sell their products free of parcel tax and reach new customers.”
The background to this is the legally required turnover limit: Since the retail turnover generated over shöpping.at was less than 100 million euros in the previous year, no parcel tax is currently payable for orders via the marketplace. According to the current forecast, shöpping.at will remain below this limit in the coming year and thus continue to be exempt from parcel tax.
Margit Waldau, Head of shöpping.at: “With the start of the parcel tax, shöpping.at will become even more attractive for Austrian online retailers. We therefore expect an increasing demand from retailers who are looking for a parcel tax-free sales alternative. Those who register now can start in time for Black Friday and the Christmas business and secure an established platform without fixed costs, with access to around one million customers and the logistics infrastructure of Austrian Post.”
To help new retailers get started, shöpping.at is offering a special promotion: Anyone who registers by October 31 and refers to the parcel tax will not pay any commission on products sold until the end of the year.
Especially before Black Friday and before Christmas, the time is right for an additional sales channel. New retailers can still be added to shöpping.at in time and offer their products via the Austrian marketplace during the high season. In doing so, they can not only do without additional levies, but also keep their prices stable. Ultimately, customers also benefit from this, as they can continue to shop online at fair prices.
