DHL expands Time Definite Delivery service to Vietnam

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, announced today the expansion of its Time Definite Delivery (TDD) service to Vietnam. The new service will commence on 4 January 2007.

A suite of time-definite delivery products, DHL’s TDD portfolio comprises StartDay Express for guaranteed delivery by 9 a.m., and MidDay Express for delivery by noon. With this latest service enhancement, DHL will start providing MidDay Express for Vietnam-bound documents. Customers in Japan will now be able to send documents to Vietnam by noon of the next business day.

To use TDD, customers simply need to contact DHL’s Customer Service, and DHL staff will collect the shipments at the designated locations for delivery on the following business day*. Customers can track their shipments via the DHL website, and they are notified via telephone, e-mail or facsimile when the delivery has been made. If the delivery is not made by the agreed time, DHL will notify the customer and follow up with a report on the cause of the delay. If DHL is responsible for the delay, DHL will reimburse all the shipping costs in accordance with DHL’s Money-back Guarantee Terms and Conditions.

TDD has been well received since its launch in 2003, and has been enhanced both in terms of geographical coverage and service offerings to better meet the needs of customers. Its geographical coverage has also been expanded by more than six-fold. The handling volume and sales continue to increase, and the year-on-year sales recorded between January and November 2006 increased by 100% with the collected volume in the same period.

With this latest service enhancement, DHL expects increased demand for MidDay Express document delivery services bound for Vietnam from consumer durable manufacturers such as those producing personal computers and home appliances, as well as banks and other financial institutions. Total import and export volumes in Vietnam have grown between 19 and 24 % year-on-year respectively for the first nine months of 2006, and demand for express and logistics services are also increasingly growing with Vietnam’s scheduled World Trade Organization accession in January 2007.

As part of its commitment to Vietnam, DHL announced in November 2006 an investment of USD14 million for infrastructure upgrades and service expansion for its Express business. With the development of infrastructure and enhancement of services, including the construction of new facilities, direct service expansion to key industrial zones, and new vehicles, DHL will increase its presence in Vietnam and enhance its market-leading position.
