DHL expands Time Definite Delivery service to US

DHL, the world’s largest express and logistics company, announced today the expansion of its Time Definite Delivery (TDD) service to the United States.

A suite of time-definite delivery products, DHL’s TDD portfolio comprises StartDay Express for guaranteed delivery by 9 a.m., and MidDay Express for delivery by noon. With this latest service enhancement, DHL will begin offering MidDay Express for United States-bound documents. This new service allows customers in Japan to send documents to the major business area in San Francisco, Los Angels and New York by noon of the next business day for an additional 1,500 yen on top of normal shipment charges. DHL will be providing this service for United States-bound documents for only an additional 500 yen in a promotional campaign until the end of April.

Furthermore, in addition to the current handling of India-bound documents, DHL also began offering MidDay Express for parcels on April 5, 2007, with guaranteed delivery of parcels to India by noon of the second business day for an additional 3,000 yen on top of standard charges.

To use TDD, customers simply need to contact DHL Customer Service; DHL staff will collect shipments at the designated locations for delivery the following business day . Customers can track their shipments via the DHL website, and they are notified via telephone, e-mail or facsimile when the delivery has been made. If the delivery is not made by the agreed time, DHL will notify the customer and follow up with a report on the cause of the delay. If DHL is responsible for the delay, DHL will reimburse all shipping costs in accordance with DHL’s Money-back Guarantee Terms and Conditions.

TDD has been well received since its launch in 2003, and has been enhanced both in terms of geographical coverage and service offerings to better meet the needs of customers. Its geographical coverage has also been expanded more than six-fold. Handling volumes and sales continue to increase; for example, sales recorded between January and November 2006 increased by 100% year-on-year in the same period.

“The expansion of TDD to include the United States attests to DHL’s commitment to proactively enhance our offerings to better serve our customers, who trust DHL as the market leader to be close to their business and introduce innovated products,” said Guenter Zorn, Representative Director and President of DHL Japan. “The service expansion is a breakthrough for TDD, one of DHL’s most widely-used service offerings in this region.”

With the enhancement of services, DHL expects increased demand especially from banks and other financial institutions for MidDay Express document delivery services bound for the United States and from apparel-related companies for MidDay Express parcel delivery services bound for India. With the United States added to its service coverage, TDD now covers 39 countries, including those in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the Middle East. DHL intends to continue to provide secure and speedy services to support the success of its customers.
