Post boxes for villas underway

Q-POST has initiated the steps for its much-awaited scheme of post boxes in villa compounds and flat complexes, inquiries found.

An official of the post boxes department said yesterday that in response to the advertisement carried by Q-Post some time ago, owners of some villa compounds had responded to express their willingness to avail of the scheme.

Mohamed Hamad Rashdan, head of subscribers’ boxes of Q-Post, said that the department was still receiving a number of requests from potential customers.

Under the scheme, in the first year a customer has to pay QR700 for installation of a post box at his residence. The amount included the installation charges of QR200 of the box.

However, from the second year, the customer needs to pay QR500, said Rashdan.

As part of the arrangement, customers would also be provided a common post box in a villa compound or a flat complex for the outward delivery of postal articles.

The Q-Post official said that those staying in apartments could also have boxes installed outside their flat. For them also the tariffs would be the same.

Asked if the facility would be extended to other areas, the official said the new scheme would be introduced all over Qatar.

The official said the corporation had the manpower and vehicles to make delivery of postal articles anywhere in the country.

The official said the new arrangement will soon come into being in some compounds in Doha.
