DHL & Fujitsu to extend logistics outsourcing pact by 5 years

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, providing supply chain services in Japan, has reached an agreement to extend its logistics outsourcing contract with Fujitsu for five years. This agreement is the continuation of a long-term relationship that began with the acquisition of Fujitsu Logistics in June 2004 by DHL (formerly Exel Japan, Ltd).

Under this logistics outsourcing agreement, DHL Supply Chain Ltd — working under the brand of DHL Exel Supply Chain — will continue to provide a broad range of logistics services in Japan for Fujitsu and its affiliate companies.

These services include transportation utilizing road and rail networks, warehouse management, packaging materials design, reverse logistics (handling of returned goods), service parts logistics, heavy equipment installation, METI-approved “green“ logistics , and information equipment recycling business.

The logistics services outsourcing relationship between the two companies began in 2004 when Exel, the forerunner of DHL Exel Supply Chain, acquired 100% of Fujitsu Logistics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujitsu.

This acquisition and outsourcing arrangement was the first of its kind in the Japanese high-technology logistics industry in terms of scale and scope of services involved.

Fujitsu’s high regard for DHL’s success in achieving various cost reduction and customer service KPI targets stipulated in the first agreement has led to its extension for the additional five years.
