Postal workers on strike in Nepal

Nepal Civil Service Employees Union (NECSEU-Postal) along with other groups of union went on strike at General Post Office (GPO Kathmandu ) and all post offices through out the country, demanding respect at work, trade union rights, postal allowances and improvement of postal services and it’s offices.

On 25 July 2007, they met with Minister of Information & Communication (MoIC) and other Ministry Officials to fulfill their demands as soonest.

After their meeting with Minister Mr. Madhav Neupane President of NECSEU Postal wing informed, “Minister was serious towards the issue”

At the same time he also enforced that if government doesn’t response to their demand, they will start another step of strike. Although the postal service is the most important service, but it has been neglected by Government policies. More than 10000 workers are employed in this service and it has to compete with private sector. Competing in the market is not possible with out improving the services and infrastructures and encouraging postal workers.
