International Mail Express, Inc. Acquires USA Mail Export Division of Mercury
International Mail Express® (IMEX), a New York-based provider of international mailing services and a member of the AAA Transportation Group, announced that it has acquired the USA Mail Export Division of Mercury Airfreight International Limited (Mercury) based in Sterling, Virginia.
This division was part of Mercury International Limited, a UK-based international mailing house. The USA Mail Export Division, founded in 1986, provides international mailing and value added services to a wide variety of clients, including publishers, universities and large corporations. The division’s niche product is poly-wrapping services, combined with expertise in the distribution of high volume publications abroad. The Sterling, Va. facility, with automated high-speed poly-wrap equipment, expects to process over 350,000 pieces of international publications per week.
“This acquisition significantly strengthens IMEX’ international mailing operations,” said Cornelius Marx, President of IMEX. “We will be able to combine Mercury’s strong position in airfreight and ancillary services, with IMEX’ substantial existing volume and significant experience in worldwide publications distribution.”
With this acquisition, IMEX is clearly the largest independently owned international mailer in the United States. With operational facilities in California, Arizona, New York and now Northern Virginia, the company is well positioned geographically to meet the needs of any international mailing customer.
Not included in the purchase is Mercury‘s USA inbound facility in Avenal, New Jersey, which will continue to provide direct mail injection services for European publishers distributing within the USA market.
