LOGIS INTERNATIONAL ACQUISITION SET TO BOOST TIBBETT & BRITTEN GROWTH IN CENTRAL EUROPE

International logistics specialist, Tibbett & Britten Group plc, announces that it has acquired LOGIS International a.s. and LOGIS International s.r.o. (“Logis”), based in the Czech Republic and Slovakia respectively.

Established in 1993, and managed primarily by Jost Hahnebeck and Frank Jovanovic, Logis is based at Pohorelice in the Czech Republic. It operates in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and has further interests in Poland. In 1999, the rapidly growing business generated revenues of DM19 million (£5.9 million).

Logis specialises in logistics, and focuses on grocery and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturers and food processors. The business has been built on long-term contractual partnerships, and major customers include Bestfoods, Beiersdorf, Henkel, Hipp, Humanic, Kimberly-Clark, Melitta, Schneekoppe-Milford and St. Nicolaus.

Services cover warehousing, chilled storage, distribution, customs clearance, export operations, bonded warehousing, and added value operations – such as labelling and promotional packing. The company has four main distribution centres and a core staff of 410.

Tibbett & Britten’s resources will enhance Logis’s capabilities, particularly in the areas of international marketing, technical planning and start-up development support.

Welcoming the employees of Logis into the Group, Ken Butt, Managing Director, European FMCG Operations for Tibbett & Britten Group plc, said: “We have discovered great empathy between our teams, along with a shared ambition to become the premier logistics specialist in Central Europe. I am delighted that Messrs Hahnebeck and Jovanovic and other senior management are staying with us in the development of the combined business.

“Expansion in Central and Eastern Europe is a key component of the Group’s growth strategy. Logis is a profitable business with an impressive track record and an enviable portfolio of blue-chip clients – which are entirely compatible with our own sector focus. The operation complements our existing operations in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland, and strengthens our already substantial presence in these territories.”

UK-based Tibbett & Britten Group plc is the world’s seventh largest logistics company, with 1999 revenues of £1.3 billion and 32,000 employees in 33 countries. Within Central and Eastern Europe the Group currently operates in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
