DHL France launches flights from Paris-Vatry and presents innovations

DHL Express announced at this week’s French transport and logistics fair SITL that it will start operating flights from the cargo airport at Paris-Vatry at the end of March. It also presented innovative new services at the leading French event.

DHL and Paris-Vatry airport officially signed an agreement at SITL for the first DHL planes to operate at the airport. From 31 March 2008, a Boeing 757 and an ATR 72 will operate two daily routes from Paris-Vatry, linking it with Milan (Bergamo), Manchester (East Midlands) and northern Spain (Vitoria).

Anne Germain, DHL Aviation network coordinator for France and the Iberian Peninsula, said: “ Our air operations in Roissy (four B757 routes) and Vatry (two routes) complement each other and guarantee the best possible service to our customers. The proximity of Vatry to the Paris region enables us to link it during the night with the regional DHL hubs such as East Midlands, Bergamo amd Vitoria. Our site at Roissy will function as an entry and exit point for our European intercontinental hub in Leipzig and will continue to play an important role as a hub for the DOM-TOM region and Africa.”

DHL said it decided to add Paris-Vatry, which is positioning itself as the specialist cargo airport for France, to its network of 12 European hubs due to its high-service quality, 24/7 service availability and the expert knowledge of its teams as well as its high infrastructure.

Meanwhile, DHL Express France said it is presenting several innovations and improved services at the SITL fair in Paris this week.

DHL Import Express Online is a new application that allows customers to handle air express imports online from 95 countries, including all of Europe. Customers can manage the full import documentation online and have full transparency of shipping data and tracking information. Similarly, DHL Europlus Import Express enables customers to import heavier deferred shipments from European countries.

Other DHL Express services launched in recent months include the “Reciproc” return logistics product, the “Pharmaplus” suite of services for the pharmaceuticals sector and the extension of DHL Servicepoints in France via a cooperation with retail group Altadis, with 3,000 “A2pas” outlets across the country.

In terms of environmental activities, DHL France said it has modernised its fleet, is testing alternative-fuel vehicles and is training drivers to drive more economically.
