DuPont Safety Award for Deutsche Post World Net (Germany)

Deutsche Post World Net has been given the DuPont Safety Award 2008 in the Innovative Approach category.
The global leader in logistics received the award for its Group-wide traffic safety initiative Global Road Safety. This follows a similar award by DuPont to Deutsche Post in 2003 for an internal safety programme.
Every day, thousands of Deutsche Post employees are on the move on roads all around the world – in cars and lorries, on bicycles or on foot. Last year, in order to raise awareness of the varied challenges and the potential hazards associated with road traffic, the company launched its Global Road Safety initiative.
At the heart of this safety initiative is the Deutsche Post World Net Road Safety Code – a list of seven simple but effective rules of the road.
The Global Road Safety initiative is not intended to be a prescriptive list of dos and don’ts – instead it aims to persuade the employees, motivating them to behave more safely when they are on the roads.

DuPont handed out the Safety Awards 2008 at the Leaders Forum in Geneva. More than 200 guests from eighty companies attended the event, to discuss topics relating to safety and to find out about future trends. “We use the DuPont Safety Awards to recognise pioneering projects and initiatives in a working environment as well as in the wider community,” explains Ian Hudson, president, DuPont Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
“Global Road Safety is an extraordinary and innovative concept, which Deutsche Post has used to significantly raise the awareness of employees throughout the world in one of the Group’s central safety issues.”
“It is a great pleasure and honour for us to receive the DuPont Safety Award. As a global leader in logistics, traffic safety is obviously very important to us,” says Walter Scheurle, responsible for Personnel on the Group Board of Management of Deutsche Post World Net.
Thanks to the Global Road Safety initiative, the company has managed to significantly reduce the number of traffic accidents. According to Walter Scheurle, “the success of the initiative and receiving the DuPont Safety Award are proof that we are on the right track. We will continue to take traffic safety extremely seriously and press on with the campaign.”
