Lithuanian Post says it is aiming to implement measures to optimise working processes by reducing incurred costs and simplifying its management of the company.

The changes form part of its strategic activity plan for 2009-2011 and will it says, reinforce cooperation with trade unions.

A new collective agreement will be established shortly, based on proposals put forward on working, social, economic conditions and the setting of guarantees provided by working groups and employees of company’s branches. It will then be discussed with representatives of a joint body of two trade unions – the Lithuania communications workers Union and PLC Lietuvos Pastas trade union. The signing of new agreement should be formalised by the 17 July 2009.

“The signing of a new collective agreement, changes to the personnel management system, centralising of company’s activities and other planned projects will be grounded on the cooperation between the company and trade union of its employees” said Ernestas Vaidelys, director general of Lietuvos Pastas.

“It is important to seek opportunities for dialogue while searching for optimum decisions” he said.

Lithuanian Post plans to reduce the number of the workers in central administration from the 1 March. From 1 April, regional main post offices will be also reorganised, the structure of branches changed, and the number of divisions, functions and employees reduced.

It said that the plans had already been put before representatives of both trade unions and that the changes will enable the centralisation of company’s activity, avoiding duplication of employee functions and improve further activities of the company.

According to Ernestas Vaidelys, all planned changes will be coordinated with the trade unions, representing employees, and will be performed in compliance with legal acts and considering the concerns and rights of the company’s workers.
