TNT Express Worldwide is optimistic about recording positive growth this year despite the global economic uncertainties.
Its managing director (Malaysia/Brunei), Gerry Power, said this was based on the strong growth rate it recorded in the first part of 2009 compared to last year.
“It will be foolish to say that we will not be affected at all by the economic slowdown. But so far, we are doing very well,” he told a media briefing after the ceremony to sign a strategic partnership with Pos Malaysia.
Power said to cushion the impact of the global financial crisis, the company has initiated changes like being prudent in spending.
He said under the agreement, Pos Malaysia’s unit, PosLaju would provide strategic operational support for TNT in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and in Sabah and Sarawak.
“This is a win-win situation, where TNT is able to provide the best solutions for the customers and PosLaju is able to focus on its network coverage expansion in Malaysia,” he said.
Meanwhile, PosLaju’s chief operating officer, Nadza Abdul, said it planned to open ten more post offices this year.
“The expansion of post offices is an automatic network coverage expansion for Pos Malaysia.”
“It will be in various locations in Malaysia, depending on the population,” he said.
Pos Malaysia currently has 691 post offices nationwide.
