DHL sharpens focus on India-UK trade lane
DHL has announced the launch of its weekly Direct LCL (less than a container load) Consol service connecting Chennai in India to Felixstowe in the UK.
DHL has announced the launch of its weekly Direct LCL (less than a container load) Consol service connecting Chennai in India to Felixstowe in the UK.
“DHL’s first priority is to serve all major markets with direct consolidations from our strong network of national gateways. With more than 2m cubic metres of LCL freight handled annually via 45,000 point pairs within the DHL in-house system, we have the largest LCL network in the world. We offer global depth and flexibility which is hard to match by our competition,” said Christoph Remund, CEO, DHL Lemuir Logistics.
With the introduction of this fixed weekly Direct LCL Consol service connecting India and the UK, DHL has strengthened its Ocean Freight business.
“DHL recognises LCL as being a crucial part of the total Ocean Freight product and we are determined to strengthen our market leading position through dedicated resources to system development and maintenance. We will also continue to create fast, cost-efficient and reliable services that enhance our customers’ competitiveness,” Remund added.
Through the launch of this service, all local Chennai cargo, as well as those from adjoining locations such as Bangalore, Pondicherry and Coimbatore, among others, can now go directly to UK, instead of being transshipped via Colombo, increasing business efficiency and competitiveness.
Sanjay Tejwani, director of Ocean Freight, DHL Global Forwarding, India, said: “The first Direct LCL Consol Box from Chennai to Felixstowe, is a strong confirmation of DHL’s ability to design and deliver logistics solutions. The weekly service will allow us to expand and strengthen our customers’ supply chain on the India-UK trade lane.”
“The launch of this weekly service is part of DHL’s on-going plans to expand its own operated, weekly guaranteed, LCL services globally. This is in line with our commitment to the Indian logistics industry to provide value-add solutions to customers through constant product innovation and increased efficiency,” he added.
