POS MALAYSIA INTRODUCES NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR REGISTERED POST SERVICE
KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 (Bernama) — Beginning today, Pos Malaysia
would be using a new system for its registered post service. Senior
general manager for Pos Malaysia Mail Business, Abdul Malik
Ahmad Shazili, said the new system aimed at faster service would be
using a computer tracking system, replacing the previous manual
system. He said Pos Malaysia handled an average of 26 million registerd
letters a year, equivalent to 83,000 letters daily. These included
overseas bound mails. These registered letters are handled by the 1,260
Pos Malaysia
networks comprising 635 post-offices, 226 mini post-offices and 399
representatives in the country, Abdul Malik told reporters at the
launch of the new registered post service at the Pos Malaysia
headquarters here today. With the increasing number of mails handled, it
was timely for Pos
Malaysia to introduce this fully computerised system, he said. He added
that the system cost a total of RM15 million including the
cost for purchasing computers, scanners and printing machines. Abdul Malik
said under the new system of operations, the record of
every registered item received for posting and its status would be
in the computer right from the time it is received to the time it is
delivered to the receipient. He said among the other reasons for the new
system were to prevent
cases of missing registered mails and to also facilitate easier
tracking of those letters. He also added that while Pos Malaysia had to
spend some good money
to upgrade the quality of the service, it would not be passing on
the expense to its customers and that the cost of the service for
customers would remain the same.
