Belgian Post: No Plans to Go Global

The Belgian post office plans to focus on its domestic market in the wake of the EU’s postal deregulation and has no plans to diversify into logistics, a company executive said. Belgian Post Group chief business development and planning officer Christophe Evers said, ‘We have no ambition whatsoever of becoming a global logistics parnership.’ He told the World Mail and Express conference on Wednesday, ‘We wish to concentrate on Belgium,’ plus the Netherlands and France.” Evers commented to Reuters: “‘We are building five new sorting centres. We are moving towards full automation.’ He said the post office is splitting its network into mail and retail sectors. On the retail side he said the post office would introduce new commercial activities. In addition to selling stamps and parcel delivery services it would also offer banking and insurance services
