POST OFFICE SAVE TOURISTS £190m

CHRIS HUGHES
Holidaymakers will be saved around pounds 190million from today as the Post Office axe charges on foreign cash. Britons had to fork out that amount on commission to buy foreign currency and travellers’ cheques last year Now the Post Office are calling on other firms to match their deal. Travel services spokeswoman Jayne Westwood said: “We are committed to offering customers an honest and straightforward service. “Our customers deserve a better deal and we believe the other major High Street players should do likewise. “Foreign currency needs to be a clearer and simpler market place for consumers, without hidden charges.” The Post Office decided to get rid of commission charges after a survey of 1000 Brits uncovered the huge amount they were being forced to
splash out on holiday spending money. However, the firm – a brand of the newly retitled Consignia plc which has an annual turnover of pounds 7.522billion – is not extending the deal to sterling travellers’ cheques. The Post Office has specifically plugged its holiday services for the first time this year by sponsoring ITV’s popular Wish You Were Here travel show.
