Latvian Post the most successful Baltic postal firm in 2000

Last year, the best financial results among Baltic postal companies were
achieved by Latvijas Pasts (Latvian Post), the company has reported.
Last year, Latvian Post saw revenue exceeding costs by 6.25m US dollars. The total revenue for last year amounted to almost 37.5m US dollars. Lithuanian Post amounted a profit of 1.95m US dollars on the total revenue of 34.21m dollars, while Estonian Post made a profit of 1.47m US dollars on the total revenue of 29m dollars. However, revenues per postal worker are highest in Estonia reaching 6,828 US dollars per postal employee in 2000. The figure in Latvia last year was 5,029 dollars and in Lithuania 4,853 dollars. Estonian Post is also ahead in terms of wages with an average monthly wage for postal
workers at 227 US dollars, while Lithuanian postal workers get 202 dollars and Latvian an average of 171 US dollars. Latvia has the largest number of post offices, compared to Estonia an Lithuania, with 970 offices. Lithuania has 909 and Estonia has 468 postal offices. In terms of the cost of postal services, Latvia again takes the lead with the cost of posting a simple letter in
Latvia being 24 US cents. In Estonia this costs 24.5 US cents and in
Lithuania 25 US cents. The Baltic states have a total of 2,347 post offices employing 18,868 postal workers. Last year, all three postal companies gave
services worth more than 100 million US dollars, sending 134 million
letters, reports Latvian Post. The three Baltic postal companies have joined in the Baltic Postal Union.
