New Zealand Post trials parcel service

New Zealand Post is trialing a new parcel delivery service in city of Palmerston North. Trailers will be attached to postal workers’ bikes, with a proportion becoming battery powered, general manager for postal delivery, Matthew Riordan, told the Manawatu Standard.

The trial will run throughout April and May in the suburbs of Highbury, Awapuni, Hokowhitu and Riverdale.

The move comes in response to declining mail volumes in New Zealand, coupled with a rise in parcel volumes, prompted by the growth in e-commerce.

“This is our first trial of different options to see what works and what doesn’t. We’re a long way still from knowing if any of this equipment will be used in other parts of New Zealand,” said Riordan, according to the Standard.
