DP DHL launches eco-friendly payment cards

Deutsche Post DHL is now offering its customers a new bio-sourced payment card from Gemalto that can be used to pay for the mailing of letters and packages and for express deliveries, reports Secure ID News. The article continues:

The new POSTCARDS GOGREEN are made from a renewable material derived from corn, sugarcane and potato starch, and have the same physical format and characteristics as common payment cards.

Gemalto says the material is easily recyclable and biodegradable, and will reduce the global ecological footprint of the smart card production process.

Deutsche Post launched its GOGREEN campaign in 2008 with the goal of reducing the CO2 emissions the company generates for every letter and parcel sent and across all of its operations including subcontracted transportation services.

100,000 of the new cards will be distributed for the initial launch.
