Austrian Post to merge Branch Network and Mail Divisions

Austrian Post has said that its Branch Network and Mail Divisions are to be merged. The move is aimed to simplify the company’s internal processes and strengthen competitiveness and customer proximity.

The Supervisory Board of Austrian Post formally approved the practical implementation of the ‘organisational and structural project’ yesterday (20 January).

Austrian Post confirmed that the merger is likely to happen at the beginning of 2012.

A company statement said: “Against the backdrop of the well-advanced conversion of company-operated post offices to postal partner offices as well as the successful realignment of Austrian Post’s cooperation with BAWAG PSK, it was resolved to merge the Mail and Branch Networks divisions by the beginning of 2012. This is a clear signal that the company will be reorganised to ensure even greater efficiency and at the same time more strongly focus on customer proximity and market requirements.”

Commenting on the decision, Peter Michaelis, Board chairman, said: “The Supervisory Board of Austrian Post has decided to resolutely press ahead with the merger of the Branch Network and Mail Divisions on a medium-term basis. Thus Austrian Post is reacting to the ongoing changes in the postal market.”

Furthermore, the Presidential Committee of the Supervisory Board is inviting applications for two Management Board positions, which will be vacant at the beginning and middle of 2012 respectively. The available positions are head of the Mail/Branch Network Division and chief financial officer.

Peter Umundum, has already been named to succeed Carl-Gerold Mende, who resigned his Management Board position of the Parcel & Logistics Division effective April 1, 2011.
