Vanderlande to equip improved TNT hub in Sydney

TNT Sydney’s Priority and International depot will be moved to a new location within its existing building to accommodate business growth. The new depot will be equipped with an automation sorting system by Vanderlande Industries, the company confirmed.

Revealing the news, the automation company said that “the [currently used] small building has been a challenging factor since multiple processes need to take place in an automated manner. The depot is intended for the processing of all relevant freight categories: bulk, road express, priority, international, book-in, incompatibles, and other services provided by TNT Express [in the area].”

According to Vanderlande key account manager, Roald de Groot, the company “needed to be very creative in fitting all the equipment, trucks, vans and processes into the building.

“The system for TNT is designed for a capacity of 4,150 items per hour. The items to be sorted consist of parcels, satchels and flash bags.

“In order to keep our competitive advantage, we need to innovate to be able to supply our customers with the best solutions. Maximising system availability against the lowest operating costs within an optimal working environment are key when it comes to research and development activities,” he added.

Greg Plane, manager, engineering & depot design, said: “The choice for Vanderlande has been based on the fact that Vanderlande has been able to come forth with the best solution fitting all the processes and requirements.”

In Australia, TNT Express has launched a new suite of Priority products giving customers the widest selection of time-definite next day delivery windows in the express transport market, the company said.

Three time definite morning delivery services have been introduced: 9:00 Express; 10:00 Express; 12:00 Express; and also an economical Overnight Express option.

Our new products will provide our customers with the broadest and most comprehensive range of time-definite delivery services giving them greater flexibility when it comes to meeting important deadlines, a TNT Australia statement said.
