From POLISH NEWS BULLETIN, September 28th, 2001
Poland’s postal service, Polish Post (PP), has announced it will invest ZL176m in a tele-information network that it says will take it into the 21st Century with a new range of services. The services that will be on offer will be offered in about 2,700 of the post office’s 8,000 outlets, with the connection of the remaining outlets not economically viable. The system will be built by the Postdata company, co-owned by PP (51 percent) and Prokom (49 percent). PP wants the new system to improve communications and to be able to offer a whole new range of services. Together with Bank Pocztowy, PP will offer a service for small and medium companies , to enable them to make social insurance contributions. Customers will also be able to pay by credit card and PP wants to offer ATM services and be able to offer credit. PP explained the move by saying that there were more corporate customers today and without the investment it could not provide the high quality of service these customers demanded.
