Hermes will overtake Deutsche Post 2013 in the parcels segment

Hermes will Deutsche Post 2013 im Paketgeschäft überholen

“We have increased by 18 percent in 2010 – we were much better than the industry.” In the future, we expect to grow two to three times faster than the market. “Alone in Germany we handle more than 300 million packages,” said Otto Executive Board Hanjo Schneider to “Wirtschaftswoche”. Therefore Hermes stick to the goal, to be the largest parcel service provider Germany in two years.

Schneider complained again that Hermes will continue strongly discriminated against in comparison with the Deutsche Post DHL. The Federal Government have created a “lex post”, it is not a “playing field”. “The rules for the tax exemption shall provide that every place must have more than 2000 people a reception.” But now there are places with only a store – and which is occupied by the German post. “We would have to start thus a new business, to meet the requirements”, said Schneider. This is not economically viable.

Currently, Hermes has around 14 000 of package shops claims in Germany. (AP)
