Siemens relaunches Datatrak system
UK sales manager Allan Smith says that there is now more potential for Datatrak in logistics, as costs come down and the industry becomes more interested in the accurate, constant monitoring that Datatrak provides.
A new Internet-based service eliminates the need for hardware, software and a separate phone line for the basic tracking service, he says. The cost of the basic service is now below the £10 a week per truck level which has deterred some hauliers.
Current users include Target Worldwide, the parcels operator that makes extensive use of owner-operators for both trunking and collection and delivery work, and is rolling
out Datatrak throughout the UK; Kelloggs in Manchester, which uses it to alert delivery
points when a truck is close to arrival; Barnsley-based tanker haulier James Durrans Trans-
port, a long-standing customer with 32 trucks; and Arcade, the recovery firm which is fitting Datatrak to 250 vehicles.
The range of information transmitted using Datatrak will be expanded, with the link to other parts of Siemens.
