CitySprint confirms Burtenshaw as new chairman

David Burtenshaw has been appointed the new chairman of UK courier firm CitySprint. With more than 30 years of experience in the logistics sector, Burtenshaw joins the Board as non-executive chairman with immediate effect.

Patrick Gallagher, chief executive of CitySprint, said: “We welcome David to CitySprint. He has a very strong track record in the logistics sector and the management team are looking forward to working with him as we continue to grow CitySprint both organically and by acquisition.”

Burtenshaw added: “I am delighted to join CitySprint. I look forward to working with Patrick and his professional and dynamic management team. CitySprint has an enviable reputation for creative and imaginary solutions for its customers, reinforced by the highest level of service and customer care. I very much look forward to contributing to its next phase of growth.”

During his career, Burtenshaw has held senior board positions with FedEx, ANC and Lynx Express.

In 1999, he became CEO of Lynx, before being appointed chairman of the board of the EuroExpress partnership in 2001, of which Lynx was a leading member.  In 2005, Burtenshaw managed the sale of Lynx to UPS.

Commenting on the appointment, Nicol Fraser, director of Dunedin Capital Partners, CitySprint’s private equity partner, said: “David is a strong appointment for CitySprint and will compliment the management team as it continues to grow the business and benefit from a number of opportunities in this dynamic sector.”

Burtenshaw fills the role vacated by Andrew Bernard, who “resigned in December having led the company through a successful Management Buy Out,” a spokesperson for CitySprint told Post&Parcel.

CitySprint provides a national service through its 31 ServiceCentres and 1,600 vehicle fleet.

In the year ended 31 December 2010, CitySprint reported profits (EBITDA) of £7.3m and revenues of £61.1m.
