Carvell named independent chairman at Secured Mail
UK postal operator Secured Mail has appointed Paul Carvell as independent chairman. Carvell (pictured) is currently executive vice president at Alexander Proudfoot, and has extensive experience in the logistics industry. As well as holding senior positions at Christian Salvesen, GE Capital and TDG, he was also CEO of UK Mail, where he took the company into the FTSE 250.
Secured Mail, which shifts 400m items per year, has experienced “phenomenal growth over the last few years”.
Last month, Post&Parcel reported that it had attracted capital investment from Next Wave Partners. The business is predicting a turnover of around £50m this year.
Commenting upon his appointment, Carvell said: “The senior management team is young, extremely focused and they do not miss a trick. Secured Mail is a fascinating business and both management and Next Wave share a very clear vision.
“With an impressive customer base, the business is extremely agile in terms of meeting customers’ requirements and can be responsive and creative in a way larger postal operators cannot.”
The business plans to use the new funds in place to continue to grow and expand, with the opening of additional depots in the pipeline.
Mark Bigley, founder and managing director of Secured Mail, said: “Paul knows this sector incredibly well and his experience and calm approach will add enormous value to our business. Having dynamic investors and an independent credible chair, all with an aligned vision, is what we need to take us forward and maintain our excellent growth levels.”
