Senior USPS manager to lead US presort industry group

A senior manager who has been helping to coordinate the modernisation of the US Postal Service’s business mail acceptance processes has been appointed to lead a presort mailing industry trade group. Robert Galaher, who recently retired from the USPS, has accepted the role as executive director of the National Association of Presort Mailers.

Galaher was most recently manager of special projects for the Postal Service, a role in which he developed ways to upgrade the process of accepting business mail, along with a strategic vision for the USPS Mail Entry and Payment Technology unit.

His 37 years of service at the Postal Service saw him rising up to manage the USPS business mail acceptance unit, where he was responsible for overseeing nationwide acceptance of around 12m mailings a year, representing around $36bn in annual revenue.

His role at the National Association of Presort Mailers begins at the start of August.

Formed in 1984, the Association represents major mailers and mail sorting companies, and states that its members are responsible for 27bn pieces of first and standard class letters and flats each year.

Rich Gebbie, President of NAPM said Galaher would bring an “invaluable set of skills and experience” with him to the Association, as it works with the Postal Service on the development of more streamlined processes for mailers and presort companies to enter mail into the USPS mailstream.

Gebbie said: “Bob’s knowledge and experience will be a great asset as NAPM continues to work actively with the USPS and the mailing industry to develop a new intelligent Streamlined Acceptance process.”

In taking his new position, Galaher replaces current NAPM executive director Joel Thomas, who is retiring.

“NAPM thanks Joel for his leadership and guidance and we wish him the best in the years to come,” said Gebbie.
