Brunei: Bleak future for postal services

The Postal Services Department is facing a bleak future due to stiff competition from the increasing use of email and short messaging service (SMS), RTB reported last night.

The use of postal services is expected to drop in the years to come as fewer people send mail the conventional way.

Latest reports showed that the Postal Services Department was already handling less mail now, RTB said.

One of the main reasons for this trend is that more people are communicating by email and SMS via phones and Internet as well as using fax machines, which are all much cheaper, faster and more convenient than conventional mail, RTB said. Copyright 2001 Borneo Bulletin.
