Stinnes Weighs Possible Acquisitions in U.S.

German logistics group Stinnes is planning to strengthen the activities of its transport subsidiary Schenker next year according to chairman Wulf Bernotat. This will involve acquisitions in the US. The company is also fine-tuning its land based operations in Europe in order to see off its number one competitor Danzas (owned by Deutsche Post). According to Bernotat, only Stinnes and Danzas have networks of sufficient size to develop integrated logistics services. The two look likely to lock horns for the supremacy of road haulage services in Europe. Bernotat believes that this sector will see above-average growth in spite of the general slump in demand.
