UPS appoints new presidents for two of its three US regions
UPS has appointed new leadership at two of its three US regional divisions, following the retirement of its East Region president, Glenn Rice, after 34 years with the company. The US shipping giant said today that its Central Region president George Brooks will transfer across to become president of the East Region unit, based in New York City.
Stan Deans, who like Brooks is a 28-year UPS veteran, has been promoted from the role of president of the Illinois district to become president at the Central Region division, based in Chicago.
UPS said today that both appointments are effective immediately.
Brooks
As president of the UPS East Region, 50-year-old Brooks takes responsibility for the eastern third of the US from Maine to Florida, covering an operation comprising about 105,000 employees.

Brooks had been Central Region president since 2008, beginning his career in 1983 as a package handler in Georgia, before rising through the ranks to become president of the then-Southeast Region in 2004.
With degrees from the University of West Georgia and the University of Phoenix, he is also a graduate of the Columbia Senior Executive Program at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and the Chief Executive Leadership Institute at the Yale School of Management.
Deans
Deans, also 50, takes charge of a region of the US from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico that has around 82,000 employees.
His career began as a package handler in Wisconsin, before a variety of roles rising to become president of the North Jersey District in 2002. From 2005 to 2008, he spent time in Europe as district coordinator, before returning to become Metro Chicago District president.
Deans has a degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and has also received management training at INSEAD in Fountainebleau, France, and the Wharton Executive Development Program. He serves on the Boards of Directors of the Chicago Workforce Investment Board and the Executive Club of Chicago.
Rice
UPS said Rice was retiring from the East Region post after 34 years of service, beginning his UPS career in 1977 as a delivery driver in the North Ohio District and after being promoted into management, moved through a series of jobs of increasing responsibility before being named president of the Alabama District in 1998.
He subsequently led the Kansas District and Canada District before being promoted to region president.
