AMI finding US success with Click2Ship express service

Air cargo and Air Express wholesaler Air Menzies International (AMI) has said its new door-to-door all-inclusive express product Click2Ship has proven a success in the US, after its first six months. The British company’s US division provides the service for shipments from envelopes up to consignments of 50 packages or 150 kilos in weight, exporting from the States to 220 countries around the world.

The premise behind the service is that freight agent customers can generate an online quote for their needs, and with a single click that quote can be turned into a booking.

The service is available to pre-registered customers for documents, personal effects and general cargo, and includes 24/7 tracking. However, it does not include hazardous cargo.

So far, the company said the Click2Ship product is now in use by 200 of its US freight agent customers, with more than three people using the service at each location.

The service is also attracting new customers, said AMI.

AMI’s senior VP for the Americas, Peter Weir, said the “impressive” growth of the service had been largely based on word-of-mouth recommendation, since the company had been avoiding heavy promotional activity to allow the service time to “bed in”.

He said: “Now we have had six months of live operation, and the system and service are fully functional, and have proven totally robust. So we now have the confidence to roll out Click2Ship more aggressively in the marketplace, and build traffic levels.”

Weir said AMI would be launching a new Click2Ship Imports service in the first quarter of 2012. This service will operate inbound to the USA from AMI locations in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, China and the UK.

AMI is also looking to expand the range of global integrators that it uses as shipping suppliers for Click2Ship as the service expands.
