Ziaullah appointed CEO at UK express network APC Overnight

UK express delivery network APC Overnight has promoted operations director Syed Ziaullah as its new chief executive. The move follows last month’s retirement of managing director Ivor Skinner.

Ziaullah has run his own courier company for nearly 30 years. County Couriers Ltd, which trades as Action Express within the Northampton area, was one of the 47 original companies that formed APC Overnight in 1994.

Since last year, the company is now being led by managing director Elaine Harries to allow Ziaullah to focus on his role at APC, for whom he has been operations director since January 2008.

APC currently delivers more than 1.4m parcels a month through its network of 120 local depots, turning over GBP 58m in 2010-11, with profits of GBP 3.4m.

The company is seeing particular growth for its “Handled with Care” services within the food and beverages industry in the UK.

“We have had fantastic success in growing the company over the past three years, and we are on track to break all records in 2012,” said Ziaullah.

“It is a tough market, but we are proving to our customers that APC is the key ingredient they need to ensure the success of their own businesses.”

APC is in the process of building a new GBP 14m purpose-built national hub in Cannock, Staffordshire, to more than double the capacity o fits current site near Wolverhampton with 128,000 square feet of space.

As operations director, Ziaullah has already been driving operational improvements including the implementation of new systems and the modernisation of the trunking fleet with greener vehicles.

The company is planning to continue developing its fleet, expanding its hub-based capabilities with more bespoke double-decker trailers.
