Swiss Post opens door to bring Swiss e-commerce to Norway
Swiss Post International has expanded its presence in Scandinavia with the opening of a new office in Norway. The new office in Oslo, which opened at the beginning of the year, will help Swiss online retailers cut costs in sending purchases to the Nordic country, the company said.
A new collective customs clearance option is being offered to handle several consignments at once, cutting the costs “significantly” for each single goods consignment according to Swiss Post.
Swiss Post International will also be handling issues like value added tax arrangements for its clients through the new office, allowing online retailers to quote an all-included price for their goods on the sold via the Internet.
“This makes it far more attractive for Norwegian consumers to order small goods from Switzerland,” said the company today.
Swiss Post International is seeing 10% annual growth rates in the mail order market, but said until now Norwegian customs clearance costs have made goods so expensive that the country was not on the radar as a market for Swiss online retailers.
However, Swiss Post said Norway should have “excellent” credentials as a good market for e-commerce since it has high internet penetration rates and above-average income per citizen.
“With the new service from Swiss Post, the terms for online retailers and their consumers have improved,” the company said in a statement outlining the new Oslo expansion, adding the claim that: “Swiss Post is the only mail company to provide business customers with this import solution to Norway.”
Swiss Post International is also offering services to Norwegian companies mailing to Switzerland, from direct marketing and periodical shipping to small goods shipment and secure business mail communications.
The company said with its new Oslo office, it is now present across the Nordic region, with four branches in Sweden, Denmark, Finland and now Norway, and 22 staff working through Swiss Post International Scandinavia.
