World Mail Awards seeking recognition for impressive mail projects

Has your company or team been responsible for a remarkable project that has driven significant growth or customer service improvements in the use of mail communications or parcel shipments? If so, you could be in line for one of this year’s prestigious World Mail Awards.

The organisers of the industry’s leading accolade are currently seeking nominations in nine categories including the World Mail Awards recognising Growth within the mail industry and high quality Customer Service.

As with the other World Mail Award categories, nominations are being accepted up until February 29, via the mailawards.com website. This year’s awards will be presented at a special ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, on 21 May, 2012.

Growth Award

The Growth category in this year’s Awards is being sponsored for the third time by PostEurop, the association of European public postal operators, which sees encouraging growth within the industry as one of its mail roles.

Botond Szebeny, the PostEurop secretary general, said: “The World Mail Awards plays a special role in our life as a unique annual event – a sort of Oscars of the post industry. Through the awarded companies, it highlights the best practices that are available at a certain moment in the worldwide postal industry.

“We believe in the growth of the postal industry and through our strategy, vision and mission, we do want to contribute,” added Szebeny. “That’s why we are supporting the Growth category, since it reflects what we believe in.”

Last year’s Growth award went to Posten Norden (now PostNord), recognising the company’s impressive growth in electronic payment notification services through its electronic web-based mailbox service, e-Boks.

e-Boks, set up by PostNord subsidiary Post Danmark and electronic payment specialist Nets, has achieved very high penetration within the Danish population, with 3m of the country’s 5.6m population now using the service.

Much of the success of the digital mailbox has been because more than 12,000 companies now use it to distribute digital payslips to 1.5m employees.

The World Mail Awards judges said the business demonstrated “real business growth” at a time when so many in the industry talk about decline. The judges also recognised PostNord in going beyond the conventional boundaries of postal activity in successfully finding a niche area to develop to the point at which it is now dominating the market.

Customer Service Award

Post Danmark was also awarded the important Customer Service Award at last year’s ceremony.

The category recognises exceptional quality of service in mail, an issue that this year’s category sponsor DHL takes pride in supporting.

Post Danmark took last year’s award for its innovative new response card product, which was developed especially out of a specific customer need, inspired by listening to Post Danmark’s customers.

The service allows postcards to be sent between customers, while a third party pays the postage. A powerful marketing tool, the pre-paid postage makes the postcard very easy to send, but Post Danmark’s marketing clients can spread as many of the postcards around as they like – but are only charged for those postcards actually mailed.

Minimising the cost and risk to direct mailers, the campaign cards can reach new segments for mailers, and means new revenues for Post Danmark.

The World Mail Award judges commented on the enormous flexibility of the service, which is based on new barcode technology, and said Post Danmark had demonstrated great customer service in developing the new product.
