Exel gains chemicals distribution contract
EXEL’S Tankfreight subsidiary has won a four-year British bulk distribution contract with Rhodia, the specialty chemicals company.
This contract will involve the transfer of more than 40 drivers from the Staveley and Avonmouth depots of Suttons Transport, the previous logistics supplier.
The management of a specialist engineering workshop and 24-hour weighbridge, with the associated personnel, will also transfer to Exel.
In addition, all routeing and scheduling activity will be provided by Exel, interfacing directly with Rhodia.
As sole bulk liquid logistics provider for Rhodia, Exel will manage all distribution of specialist bulk liquids including phosphates, fine organics and chlor alkali-sulphur products as well as packed chlorine throughout the UK. It will also transport inbound raw materials from national ports and deliver specific high-grade products into mainland Europe.
Exel’s Tankfreight business also operates an in-plant logistics operation for Rhodia ChiRex in Northumberland, involving inventory management, control of inbound raw materials and intermediate and finished goods.
Neil Ripley, managing director of Tankfreight at Exel, said that the new contract would build on a 20-year relationship with Rhodia through its recent acquisition of Albright & Wilson.
