La Poste may take total control of German subsidiary DPD

La Poste, the French post office, is interested in a total takeover of its German subsidiary DPD, which ranks third in Europe in parcel delivery. La Poste has held an 85 per cent stake in the company for more a year.

Claude Begle, head of parcel delivery at La Poste, said in a recent newspaper interview that if other shareholders in the company were willing to sell and the price was right, the French group would buy. La Poste is keen to prevent its main German rival, Deutsche Post, from increasing its grip on the European parcel delivery sector still further. The French group increased its stake in DPD from 50 to 85 per cent a year ago and took over the management of the company. UK postal group The Post Office holds 10 per cent of DPD’s capital and delivery company Spedition controls 5 per cent.
