DHL Global Forwarding developing $48m hub in Sydney
DHL Global Forwarding has started work on a A$45.8m ($48.1m USD) new facility that will bring together its two operational sites within Sydney, Australia. The company said the new 19,619 square metre facility at the Millennium Court Industrial Estate in the suburb of Matraville would be one of the largest in South Sydney.
It should be completed in March 2013, including 5,000 square metres of office space and 15,000 square metres of office space.
The facility will also have a 3,000 square metre area dedicated for temperature-sensitive goods, the largest such allocation of space to temperature-controlled capabilities of any freight forwarder in Australia, the company said, adding that it was a particular source of potential growth for the company.
The Matraville site is “perfectly located” close to Port Botany and Sydney International Airport, with DHL promising that it will “greatly improve” customers service levels to support the significant growth seen by the company in the last 12 months, particularly in the pharmaceutical, technology and mining industries.

Tony Boll, chief executive of DHL Global Forwarding South Pacific, said: “The new premises will provide for business growth and improved process capabilities which will enhance our productivity in the processing of our air and ocean freight cargo.
“Combining our Sydney operational sites into one purpose-built facility ensures we are able to meet the future demands of our customers.”
The site is owned by Australian property developer Goodman, which is redeveloping it on behalf of DHL Global Fowarding.
Goodman said DHL Global Forwarding had committed to a total of 28,589 square metres in total at the Matraville site.
