Postcomm delays liberalisation

THE POSTAL regulator last night agreed to delay the introduction of competition to Consignia, the owner of Royal Mail, after pleas from the company and postal unions. Graham Corbett, the chairman of Postcomm, said it had agreed to extend the consultation period on its proposals for throwing 30 per cent of the market open to rival operators to 12 April. This means the liberalisation of postal services will begin in May, a month later than planned.
