Postcomm extends Consultation Deadline [Statement]

The Communication Workers Union (on 12 March) and Consignia (on 13 March) asked us to give them more time to respond to our 31 January consultation on our market opening proposals. Their request was backed by a number of MPs when we attended a meeting in the House of Commmons on 13 March.
Postcomm carefully considered these requests and announced on 13 March that it had decided to extend – to Friday 12 April – the date for comments on its proposals. (The original six-week consultation period was due to finish on 15 March.) Graham Corbett, Chairman of Postcomm said:
“Both Consignia and the CWU have asked for more time to finalise their responses to us. Both are key stakeholders. In line with our commitment to ensuring that our proposals do not destabilise the postal market, we will want to take full account of all the issues they wish to raise. We have also had requests from MPs for an extension, and we are happy to agree to this. The proposals out for consultation remain unchanged.”
The extension means that Postcomm’s decision document will be issued in May, not April as originally planned.
