Austria Post closer co-operation with DPD Austria

Osterreichische Post AG is restructuring its courier, express and parcel sector. From April 2002 the state owned Austrian mail company will co-operate with the private parcel service provider DPD. The national mail operator has held a 30% stake in DPD Austria since 1977. The latter was established in 1988 by the 3 Austrian forwarders Gebruder Weiss, Schachinger and Lagermax, with hold 70% of the equity.
The companies plan to co-operate more closely in the sectors of IT, systems and logistics processes in the business, private and express parcel post segment.
Paul Senger-Weiss, acting as spokesman for the 3 private parcel service providers, commented “By co-operating more closely in these important sectors we can cut out needless diplication. We save investment costs and can thus significantly build on our leading position in the market.“
