Emirates Satellite Post Offices launched

Emirates Post has launched a single counter postal service – manned by one person – in crowded districts to meet growing demands, said Abdullah Al Daboos, Director General of Emirates Post.

Speaking to Gulf News, Daboos said the service has been initiated as part of efforts by Emirates Post to provide greater convenience to the public.

“The service is known as Satellite Post Offices comprising just one counter. They are established in market places where space is limited, in order to have a full-fledged post office.

“The public will come across these satellite post offices not only in Dubai but in the entire UAE. We have opened two of them in Deira, one in Rolla in Sharjah, one in Ras Al Khaimah, one in Ajman in the industrial area. There are two in Umm Al Quwain – in the industrial area and the market place. In the future we plan to have three such post offices in Abu Dhabi which will be located at the Abu Dhabi bus station, Das island and at the Abu Dhabi airport, while in Al Ain they will be located in the Al Yahar and Al Hiar areas.

“Our feedback shows that it has proved to be a tremendous success as a result of which we have extended our timings. We are always looking for opportunities to enhance our services.

“These offices will function like any other post office and will provide all postal services. The timings will match the timings of the market places where they have been established.”

Welcoming the idea of satellite post offices in congested areas, a cross-section of the public who spoke to Gulf News said it would save them a lot of time.

Says Huwaida Sayed, a housewife: “The concept is very nice, it definitely makes our life easier. This is because there are three or four post offices in Dubai in places like Deira, Karama and Jumeirah. For me, personally, it is always time-consuming to have to go all the way to Karama just to get some postal work done.”

Abdul Ghazi, a Dubai taxi driver, said: “It is very good for us. As we are always hovering around the market places for customers. A post office near by would definitely prove quite appropriate.”

Umang Shah, who lives near BurJuman Centre, said: “Despite being a commercial venture, Emirates Post has always reached out to the customers, making life a bit easier. The more facilities they provide, the better for Emirates Post as it will only enhance their reputation.”
