UPS expands facilities in North America

UPS has opened three expanded facilities in the United States and Canada to service customers in the retail, manufacturing and healthcare industries. The company has improved its locations in Calgary, Alberta, in Hebron, Kentucky, and in Mira Loma, California.

The Atlanta-based firm said its investment added nearly 478,000 square feet of space to its global supply chain network of 528 facilities.

Stephen Hydrick, UPS vice president of North American distribution, said the expansion was made to support growing customer needs.

“As they launch new products and experience seasonal spikes in volume, they must have the flexibility to scale up and down. These investments give customers that flexibility, and it’s vital to their success,” he said.

The expanded facility in Hebron, Kentucky, is seen as a key logistics site for the retail industry. The location close to Greater Cincinnati Airport is within two days’ transit from 62% of the US population through the UPS Ground service, or 64% of the population for UPS Freight. It is also within 600 miles of 30 major metropolitan markets.

UPS added 151,000 square feet of capacity to its facility in Hebron.

The company added more than double that space to its facility in southern California. The Mira Loma facility now has an extra 309,000 square feet. UPS said the site is just five minutes from LA/Ontario Airport, a UPS regional air hub, within eight miles of four major freeways and one hour from the two largest seaports in the UK.

UPS moves “significant” shipments from Asia Pacific to the US via the Mira Loma facility.

The company’s Western Canada footprint was expanded by 18,000 square feet, with the expansion taking the form of certified healthcare space. It will allow for faster transit for customers in the Saskatchewan-British Columbia corridor, the firm said.
