An insight from Siemens, official Technology Partner for World Mail & Express Europe 2014
In the lead up to the World Mail & Express Europe Conference & Exhibition, Post&Parcel speaks to Siemens the official Technology Partner in order to gain an insight into the European market and the technology that Siemens has provided to the industry for many years.
What does becoming the Official Technology Partner of the approaching World Mail & Express Europe conference mean to Siemens?
Siemens Logistics and Airport Solutions is pleased that we were presented with the possibility to become Official Technology Partner for the World Mail & Express. Being Technology Partner provides us the opportunity to showcase our solutions – in this case especially our IT solutions for CEP service providers at this important conference.
In terms of region, how important is this European conference?
Firstly, the European market is not only important due to its size, but also because of the applied technologies. Secondly, there is a variety of postal services that are partly also competitors, meaning that there are a lot of interesting companies and approaches
A lot of European postal organizations rely on our postal automation solutions. Headquartered in Germany we are at the doorstep of Europe. A long history connects us to the European postal service providers: our first letter sorting machine was delivered to the German Post in 1962.
Michael Mohr, Global Key Account Manager CEP, Siemens is speaking in the Technology showcase session, can you provide a teaser into what he will be addressing?
From sorting-process-centered IT to hub-centered IT: Hardware helps – software improves
Not only faster conveyors, smarter sorters or harder-working colleagues can improve your parcel processing: our software can give a dramatic boost to your process efficiency. The performance of a hub is the product of sorter performance as well as seamless and functional interaction of all hub components, staff and parcel transports.
Parcel hub operations are marked by numerous uncertainties: Quantities of incoming parcels may vary in volume and mix on a daily basis: Valuable production resources can suddenly become unavailable. Furthermore, arrival times are heavily dependent on traffic and weather conditions. One thing, however, is certain – a constant increase in volumes within the next years.
IT supports the CEP industry’s parcel hubs
The Parcel Hub Information System synchronizes all activities in the process. Information is provided in real time, and relevant data are processed simultaneously according to the overall logic of the logistics value chain. Finally, activities are seamlessly combined.
Siemens will also be exhibiting in Berlin, 17-19 June in location 15. If you are interested in finding out more about the technology and conference please visit www.triangle.eu.com/europe.
