eBay Germany launches click and collect, same-day delivery

eBay is launching a new click and collect offering in Germany, along with a new same-day delivery service with DHL. The e-commerce marketplace said the moves were designed to make shopping even easier on eBay and help retailers using the platform to better compete in today’s omni-channel retail environment.

The new click and collect service will see eBay partnering with various brick-and-mortar retailers to allow consumers to pick up items purchased online in local stores, free of charge.

eBay said it already has retailers Butlers, Gravis, Porta, Möbel Boss, Atelco and Motoo as partners, and within a few weeks should have A.T.U, Conrad, Cyberport, More & More and Pro Aurum joining them.

Once shoppers have selected click and collect during their purchase at eBay, they will receive a text message when the item is ready for collection.

The new same-day delivery service is being run as a pilot with DHL Parcel in Berlin from early November until the end of the year.

Consumers shopping from participating retailers on eBay will be able to buy items up to 2pm and get them delivered on the same day, between 8pm and 10pm.

eBay said between five and 10 merchants will be participating in the pilot, including Fashion For Home and MAPCO.

The company said it was aiming to gain more experience in the area of same-day delivery working with DHL.

Dr. Stephan Zoll, vice president of eBay Germany, said: “With our new click and collect service and the same-day delivery pilot with DHL Parcel, we will offer merchants a strong partner and broader support in order to be successful in today’s omni-channel retail environment.

“Brick and mortar retailers can work with eBay Click and Collect to make their product ranges available to 16.5m more potential shoppers online, and at the same time attract even more customers into their physical stores.”
