FedEx plans to maintain night flights at Roissy
FedEx, the US express postal delivery group, has announced double-figure turnover growth in Europe for the financial year ending May 31, despite the slowdown in the US economy and the events of September 11. It also has a positive view of the year ahead.
The group is focusing its efforts in Europe more than ever on its hub at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport outside Paris, which employs 1,400 people and processes 750 tonnes of mail a day, with a capacity of 300 parcels hourly. Apart from 250 aircraft movements a night, FedEx uses the holds of 325 commercial flights. In France, the group estimates that its alliance with French parcel delivery group Geopost has upped night parcel sorting by 26 per cent. FedEx intends to maintain its nocturnal flights from Roissy despite protests from local residents.
