EU clears Swedish state aid to post office to cover costs of cash services

The European Commission said it has cleared aid from the Swedish government amounting to 44 mln eur per year to the postal operator Posten AB to cover the costs of its cash services.

The commission said Posten, which is wholly owned by the state, has been entrusted with a new universal cash service allowing customers to make bill payments or bank account deposits and withdrawals.

It said it has cleared the aid to allow Posten to fulfil its universal services obligation.
